Sangriaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

So we have perfected our recipe thanks to trial and trial. I'd say error but I can't because we successfully drank each batch without complaint. This is the best version of our recipe thus far.

  • one bottle of shiraz ( we use yellowtail because we like the flavor)
  • half a bottle of champagne
  • two sliced up oranges
  • half a watermelon, juiced ( if you don't have a juicer you can blend it and it will be a little more pulpy but still good)
  • two cups orange juice

add all to a pitcher with ice and enjoy!

You can sub 7up for champagne for less alcohol if you want but we found it goes farther this way over ice.

Other fruit can be added as yummy decoration too. I like frozen blueberries because they stay whole and add more chill. Or frozen watermelon chunks like ice cubes.

Bacon Cupcakes

Ah yes, the tried and true small moist cakeness.

And also large ones. :) I always make two sizes to accommodate all types of sweet tooth.

Easy recipe is as follows:
  • box of yellow cake mix ( plus ingredients needed for that mix such as eggs and butter and whatnot)
  • 10 slices of BACON crumbled

Follow baking instructions on the box and then mix in bacon before filling muffin cups 2/3 with batter. Mix a vanilla or butter cream frosting with maple syrup. Frost cooled cupcakes and top with a few bacon crumbles and perhaps candied pecans like I did tonight :)

Hard recipe :
• 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
• 1 1/3 cups sugar
• 3 teaspoons baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1 cup milk
• 4 tablespoons maple syrup
• 2 large eggs

  • 10 slices of cooked BACON crumbled
Then proceed with the frosting process after baking and cooling cupcakes.

Sweet Bacon Snack

I had candied pecan bits left over from another recipe just asking to be put on something. Pre chopped bits tossed with melted butter, and Almond Rocca syrup ( my sweet cheat for candied things) and toasted up in the oven. Anyhow, as I made breakfast this idea popped into my bacon brain. Take cooked bacon half strips and dip one side flat into melted almond bark ( white chocolate dipping melt you can find in the grocery store). Lay them dipped side up and sprinkle with pecan bits. Popping them in the fridge for a few minutes will speed things up if the weather is warm.

Enjoy!!

Let there be food

I am starting a new chapter, or I guess a side project, to my blogness. I like to make friends and family drool with pictures sent of goodies I am devouring. So, I will post them here. And add recipes too. I am thief sometimes and you may see foods you have fed me. More often then not I try to morph ideas or get all crazy resourceful and use what I have in my fridge to recreate something. I will try not to spill family secrets :) and I will give props when I recall where I stole something.

There are a lot of strange combos that turn out exciting. Sometimes the dish will be healthy, sometimes it will be three parts bacon. OK who am I kidding, I almost always cook with bacon if I can get away with it. I guess that is my disclaimer. Beware of bacon.

I will start today if I can round up last nights squash recipe :) and photo. Enjoy!!
